Experienced pediatric nursing professional to lead PNCB’s Board of Directors.
July 2, 2025

Scott Meskimen, MSN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, Named Chair of the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board

Rockville, MD – [July 11, 2025] – As the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) celebrates its 50th anniversary of advancing pediatric nursing excellence, we are pleased to announce that Chair-Elect and PMHS-at-Large Board Representative Scott Meskimen, MSN, CPNP-PC, PMHS has been named Chair of the PNCB Board of Directors. Meskimen assumed the role of Chair on July 1, 2025, and will lead a distinguished group of pediatric thought leaders in guiding the organization's strategic direction and its shared commitment to advancing pediatric health.

An experienced practitioner in pediatric mental and behavioral health, Scott Meskimen, MSN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, has devoted his career to making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families through high-quality, compassionate care. Meskimen entered the nursing profession following a successful career in retail. He earned his associate degree in nursing and later completed his BSN at the University of Iowa. He began his clinical career as a staff nurse in General Pediatrics and the Pediatric ICU at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Meskimen went on to earn a Master of Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and obtained certification as a Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist (PMHS).

Meskimen brings a strong background in diagnostics, health promotion, and both family-centered and individualized care. At his practice, he developed a lactation support program to promote breastfeeding and established weekly pediatric in-services for nursing staff, enhancing the quality of patient care.

Since 2021, Meskimen has been a highly engaged representative and thought leader of PNCB, contributing to its vision of creating a healthier world one child at a time. As PNCB Chair, he now leads the largest organization in the United States representing pediatric nurses and pediatric nurse practitioners. He has previously served as PNCB’s Board Treasurer and currently serves as the PMHS-at-Large Representative and a member of the Executive Committee.

Meskimen has contributed as a volunteer on several PNCB committees, including Finance, Awards & Scholarships, and Appeals. In 2021, he participated in the Item Writing Workshop and continues to serve on key task forces and advisory groups such as the PMHS Exam Committee, the 2022 PMHS Job Task Analysis Task Force, and the 2022–2023 Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) Competency Framework Task Force.

Beyond PNCB, Meskimen is a guest lecturer for the St. Ambrose University Physician Assistant Program and serves as President of the School Health Link Board in Moline, Illinois. Under his leadership, this nonprofit school-based health clinic significantly improved access to care for children without a medical home while reducing operational overhead through a redesigned care model. “As PNCB continues to be a driving force for quality in pediatric nursing globally, I am honored and excited to step into the role of Chair of the PNCB Board of Directors,” said Meskimen.  “With the organization midway through its Strategic Plan, I look forward to leading our team in alignment with PNCB’s core values of integrity, quality, innovation, advocacy, and respect, and advancing our vision of a healthier world, one child at a time.”
