These are just a few of the ways leaders in the specialized field of pediatric nursing have described our rigorous certification programs. We remain the largest independent pediatric nursing certification organization in the country, with all of our programs recognized by every employer and state board of nursing in the nation. Over 95% of all pediatric nurses who certify choose the PNCB. And they stay certified... 96% of all PNCB-certified nurses recertified for 2008.

Our story begins in 1975 when we were established to develop a certification program for Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Two years later we launched the Primary Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP®) Exam, which continues to be the certification exam of choice for graduating PNPs. Since 1977, more than 12,000 PNPs have earned the designation Primary Care CPNP®.

In 1989, we responded to a nationwide survey of pediatric nurses who indicated a need and desire to participate in certification by launching the Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN®) Exam. We offer an exclusive On-site Testing Program that brings the CPN® Exam to your facility at your convenience, with no cost to your institution and discounts for your nurses.

In 2004, after careful role delineation research, we became the only certification board to offer Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP®) Certification. To learn more about all of our programs, visit About Our Exams and About Recertification.

As we develop the Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse Exam with the Board of Certification for Emergency Nurses (BCEN) and celebrate over 30 years of administering our Primary Care CPNP® Exam, you can be assured that we will continue to maintain the high quality of our current programs. Your needs—and those of your patients—are always foremost in our thoughts as we manage the present and look to the future. At the PNCB, we will always make it our mission to foster the delivery of high quality healthcare to pediatric patients and their families by promoting excellence among our nurses.
