It's Been a While...
Spring, that wonderful time of renewal, is upon us, and we'd like to get back to a regular newsletter to keep you informed about PNCB news and updates about program review.
We hope you enjoy these updates and plan to touch base with you in the spring and fall of each year... or more often for special or time-sensitive announcements.
Going Green(er)
From web-based exam applications to online wallet cards and Self-Assessment Exercise (SAE) answering options, the PNCB strives to make things fast and convenient for you and your students... and reduce
paper waste and mailing expenses for all involved.
Coming Soon: A New Doc of Ed Form.
Before 2009 is over, our goal is to provide you with an updated, more comprehensive Documentation of Education Form.
How It Will Help.
Once in place, this new form will allow faculty to complete one form for each graduating class.
You will simply email the form to us and let us know the names of who is eligible to apply.
Students will no longer need to request individual signed forms to be mailed directly from you. We'll keep you posted on the development of this new form, which will be a Word document you can easily email back to us.
Electronic transcripts.
If your institution can send official transcripts via email, please notify programreview@pncb.org
so we can encourage exam candidates to seek out this service and process their applications even faster. Our goal by the end of 2009 is to only collect electronic transcripts.
Coming Soon: Test-Taking Strategies
If your students express anxiety about their upcoming exams, help is on the way!
In addition to the PEDs Exam Prep practice exam with CE and SAE Study Bundles,
your graduating students may benefit from our upcoming web-based Test-taking Strategies module to educate candidates about test-taking strategies and help them manage anxiety before and during an exam.
Participants will earn contact hours approved by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP).
We will share full details on this preparatory aid once it becomes available.
FAQs
Below are some of the questions we receive from students and our answers for your reference.
Q: What should I do first, apply or have my documentation and transcripts sent?
We ask you to apply first. When you apply, a record is created in our database to receive and begin reviewing your supporting documents as they arrive.
If transcripts and other materials arrive before you submit your application, we hold these documents until you apply to make your intent to take the exam known.
Q: What if one of my graduate nursing degrees was awarded by a school outside of the United States?
Additional documentation is required for candidates with a Master's or doctorate from a non-US based graduate nursing program.
The PNCB requires information documenting the process used by PNP program faculty to determine the equivalency of a non-US
based or foreign transcript to a nationally accredited US master's or doctorate level nurse practitioner education.
Candidates and PNP Program faculty may contact the PNCB to learn more about this requirement.
We hope you enjoyed this edition of PNCB's Faculty Update.
Look for the next issue in your inbox in the coming months!
