Welcome back to CPNP Perspectives

Everyone from the PNCB wishes you all the best in 2009, and we hope 2008 was a wonderful year for you and your family. Here's what 2008 brought for the PNCB... and what's new for 2009:

Updates to the Primary Care CPNP® Exam. The PNCB completed comprehensive role delineation research in 2008 and updated this exam's content outline. More than 1500 CPNPs® responded to our role survey highlighting the practice competencies linked to quality primary care PNP practice. We invite you to read our press release, review the updated content outline and view a PowerPoint describing the updates. Updated exam forms went into effect this past October.

Primary Care CPNP-At-Large Board Position Open. The PNCB Board of Directors seeks nominations for this special position, which was designed to broaden the representative voice of the community of practicing CPNPs® on issues related to pediatric nursing certification. The three-year term for this board position starts July 2009. This is a great opportunity to become more involved in the many important issues impacting national certification for pediatric nurse practitioners and general practice pediatric nurses.

Please email your intent to apply to info@pncb.org by March 9, 2009. Applicants have until March 16, 2009 to submit their materials. Learn more>>

Kudos Corner

Cathy J. Sizer, CPNP, practices on St. Simon's Island, Georgia and has developed Ready...Set...GO! Club, a comprehensive, individualized program of assessment and goal-setting to teach children and adolescents in her practice about healthy lifestyles. Exercise options within family budgets are shared and participants earn certificates for reaching goals. This program is based on guidelines developed by the AAP and NAPNAP.

Kristen Marie Haight, CPNP, practices in both a pediatric neurosurgical and primary care setting, and has had two more books published by Tate Publishing. Proceeds from her new juvenile novella, Maile's Lei Helani, will support women's cancer research, awareness and treatments throughout the US.

Theresa (Terri) Kyle, CPNP, has published two undergraduate nursing textbooks: Essentials of Pediatric Nursing (2008) and, with co-author Susan Ricci, Maternity and Pediatric Nursing (2009). Both books are published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
