Welcome back to CPNP Perspectives!

We hope your 2007 was a wonderful year filled with great memories and many professional achievements. It certainly was a memorable one for the PNCB. As we welcome a brand new year, we'd like to take a moment to share some highlights from last year and what's new for 2008:

More CPNP-ACs® Than Ever! In 2007, the total number of Acute Care CPNPs® throughout the country increased by 50%. Today more than 700 candidates have successfully completed the Acute Care CPNP® Exam. Our Primary Care CPNPs® also increased with more than 800 candidates testing in 2007. Congratulations to all of our new CPNPs®!

CPNP-PC® Exam Update. The PNCB will complete comprehensive role delineation research in 2008 to update our Primary Care CPNP® Exam. More than 1500 CPNPs® responded to our role survey highlighting the practice competencies linked to quality primary care PNP practice. This month, PNP educators and clinical experts met to analyze role delineation responses and incorporate recommended changes to our Primary Care CPNP® national certification exam. We encourage everyone to check our website for special announcements as these changes unfold.

Your CPNP® Corner. We've created a special page just for CPNPs® on our website! Visit your CPNP Corner to find an overview of your benefits, important updates, a resource library, archived issues of this electronic newsletter, a free calendar for printing, and more.

Everyone from the PNCB wishes you all the best for 2008! If you have questions or comments at any time, please contact us at pncb@pncb.org so we can help.

Kudos Corner

Kristen Marie Haight, a CPNP practicing in Manhattan, had her first children's book published by Tate Publishing in 2007! Abiento depicts the adventures of four friends in old Central Park, and a portion of the proceeds from her story will benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Kristen is busy working on two more books to benefit other great causes. Congratulations, Kristen!

Have you recently accomplished something related to pediatrics? Email feedback@pncb.org so we can share your great news with your colleagues in the next Kudos Corner.

Calling All Artists!

We're busy rearranging space at the PNCB to create a Board Room and Learning Center, and we'd love to feature art by CPNPs® on the walls!

Oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints... if you like to create artwork featuring children or the profession of pediatric nursing and have reproductions, we hope you consider donating your work to the PNCB. We'll frame your contribution and display it alongside an engraved nameplate to recognize your talent and generosity. Contact Lori Boocks, Director of Marketing, at lboocks@pncb.org to arrange a donation.

Changing Roles?

Over the past three years, the PNCB has offered the Acute Care certification exam to PNPs educated in primary care and working in an acute care setting. This option is no longer available, but if you are still interested in becoming certified as an acute care PNP, consider a PNCB recognized acute care post masters program.

In addition, if you are educated and certified in acute care and are considering a primary care role, you can pursue a post masters education in primary care through a PNCB recognized primary care program to earn primary care certification.
