Happy New Year from the PNCB!

We hope your 2007 was a wonderful year filled with great memories and many professional achievements. It certainly was a memorable one for the PNCB. As we welcome a brand new year, we'd like to take a moment to share some highlights from last year and what's in store for 2008:

More CPNs® Than Ever! We welcomed over 1700 new CPNs® to the PNCB in 2007... a 14% increase over 2006! Growth like this is a direct result of CPNs® who create excitement about the exam for their colleagues, just like Bonnie Archer does at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Be sure to see our interview with Bonnie in this issue to find out she creates enthusiasm for PNCB certification.

CPN Exam Prep Launched. Developed for those planning to take the exam, this continuing education activity has received great feedback. If your colleagues are planning to seek CPN® certification, our online CPN Exam Prep reflects our exam content outline and helps nurses assess their strengths and weaknesses prior to testing.

Coming Soon: The CPEN Exam! The PNCB is working hard behind the scenes with the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) to create the Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse Exam. The two organizations held an item writing workshop this month to continue the development of this exam. The PNCB and BCEN plan to launch the CPEN Exam in early 2009.

Participants at the CPEN Exam Item Writer Workshop hosted by Orlando Regional Healthcare's Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.

Bonnie Archer, RN, BSN, CPN
A Champion for Certification

It's always great to hear about nurses who believe CPN® certification is cause for excitement! Today we'd like to introduce Bonnie Archer, whose enthusiasm has encouraged others to take the exam in a big way. Bonnie is a Clinical Nurse Educator for the Med/Surg units at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned her CPN® certification during a PNCB On-site Exam in October of 2007 and recruited 23 of her colleagues to take it as well.

This is amazing, but she didn't stop there... she has already encouraged 27 more of her colleagues to take the exam in 2008! To find out how she does it and why she's passionate about CPN® certification, read more!

Calling All Artists!

We're busy rearranging space at the PNCB to create a Board Room and Learning Center, and we'd love to feature art by CPNs® on the walls!

Oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints... if you like to create artwork featuring children or the profession of pediatric nursing and have reproductions, we hope you consider donating your work to the PNCB. We'll frame your contribution and display it alongside an engraved nameplate to recognize your talent and generosity. Contact Lori Boocks, Director of Marketing, at lboocks@pncb.org to arrange a donation.
