Did you know that the PNCB Board of Directors is a "practicing" board?
The majority of our members are PNCB-certified nursing professionals and, as your colleagues,
we always have your best interests at heart as we look for new ways to improve what we do here at the PNCB.
Your board members are responsible for creating policies that directly affect you, like the elimination of
enrollment fees for each seven-year cycle.
Who is "on board" at the PNCB? We've grown from six members to a total of ten, and seven of us hold
CPN®, CPNP-PC® or CPNP-AC®
certification. Of the remaining three, two are pediatricians who work closely
with PNPs and pediatric nurses in their practices. A final "consumer" member is involved to reflect on
the quality of the work we do and to be alert to issues relating to quality pediatric nursing practice.
We're pleased that the administration of our acclaimed Primary Care CPNP® Exam celebrated its thirtieth
anniversary this year, and we want you to know that your board is dedicated to updating this and all other
PNCB exams often so that they remain respected, reliable measures of a nurse's knowledge and skills.
By keeping our focus on developing the highest quality exams possible, we ensure that your PNCB certification
is valued by your colleagues, employers, and the public not only today, but for many, many years to come.
Our commitment to you is always foremost on our minds. If you have questions for us, we'd love to hear from you.
Please feel free to contact us at pncb@pncb.org any time.
What's New with Recert?
A lot has changed in the world of nursing since
my mom took this photo of a future nurse. Every year, the PNCB looks for ways to change as well.
We hope you enjoy what's in store for 2008 Recertification:
No more enrollment fee. As announced in our August certificate mailing,
this administration fee for starting the first year in a seven-year Recert cycle is no more!
Online wallet cards. Faster access to this document was foremost in our thoughts
as we revamped Recertification this year. And if you misplace your card, you can quickly print a
replacement.
Streamlined Recert. Nurses are busy people. We've made online Recert faster than ever this year.
A bigger online discount. You'll save $10.00 with online Recert, and we encourage you to take advantage of this
savings October 1 through December 1, 2007. Of course if you'd like to complete paper forms, these will be available on our
web site for printing.
We hope you enjoy how easy this year's Recert process is. If you have questions, we're just a phone call away!
Looking to Develop a Review Course?
We often get calls from hospitals asking for advice on how to start their own review courses, so we took your questions to the experts at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. If you're thinking about creating a course for your pediatric nurses, you don't want to miss this article! Read More

Did you know?
Over 53 hospitals have offered the CPN® Exam
so far this year through our one-of-a-kind On-site Testing Program, and 40 more hospitals are signed up through December!
If you'd like to support PNCB certification at your hospital, visit our
On-site
Testing page or request our free
posters and brochures. Having a certification or skills fair? We'll be glad to send you our Certification Fair Kit, which includes a
fun, fact-filled PowerPoint slideshow about the importance of certification. Call 1-888-641-2767 ext. 315 to request yours today!
We hope you enjoyed this issue of CPN® Connection.
Look for the next edition to arrive in your inbox later this year!
We need your input! Your board of directors is considering a new timeline for CPN® Recertification, and we'd
like your feedback. Take our brief three-question survey to share your thoughts.
Stock photos of nurses helped us revamp the PNCB website, but we're ready to
showcase the "real deal" at the top of each web page. Interested? Wear your favorite scrubs (and smiles!)
in solo shots or groups of two or three. Plain white backgrounds work best, if possible,
and we'd love it if your wear your CPN® lapel pin. Email us
with your photos and any questions.
Anne Marie Kotzer, PhD, RN, CPN, Nurse Researcher at The Children's Hospital in Denver, was inducted into
the Western Academy of Nurses this year at the 40th Annual Communicating Nursing Research Conference of the
Western Institute of Nursing held in Portland, Oregon. Fellowship in the Academy recognizes and
honors nurses who have demonstrated excellence in nursing practice and have advanced practice in direct care,
education or research. Congratulations!
Got kudos? Email yours so we can post your pediatric nursing achievements here!
