Two Organizations.
One Historic Certification.

When representatives from 14 states met this March in Washington, DC to participate on an advisory committee for this new certification, something amazing happened...
"The energy at this meeting was simply incredible," recalls Dr. Janet Wyatt, Chief Executive Officer of the PNCB.
"Nurses shared their ideas, experiences, expertise and most importantly their enthusiasm to create the foundation for this
unique specialty nursing certification."
Certification Officer Tancy Stanbery, MSEd, CAE, couldn't agree more. "This expert panel of diverse backgrounds in pediatric
emergency nursing thrived off of each other's excitement, coming together for a common goal to develop this certification."
"Everyone was aware of the groundbreaking nature of the work," says BCEN Chairperson Jacqueline Stewart, MSN, RN, CEN.
"Never before have two nursing certification organizations successfully collaborated in the development of a single certification examination.
How fitting that in a city so full of history, history would be made."
Together, this group of staff nurses, educators and managers worked hard to develop the national survey that will help define the role responsibilities
of pediatric emergency nurses who provide urgent and emergent care. And they came from a variety of practice settingslarge pediatric
hospitals, community hospitals, urgent care centers and pediatric transport facilities. No matter the setting, the message was the same: Their colleagues
were interested in a new certification just for them!
"The excitement generated at the meeting told us that nurses would seek out this subspecialty certification," added Peg Harrison, PNCB's Director of
Exam Development. "It will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of pediatric emergency nursing practices and
the delivery of quality pediatric emergency care. We can't thank our panel volunteers enough for their input."
And soon it will be time to share your input. Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP)
will be contacting CPNs at random for an online Pediatric Emergency Nursing Role Delineation Survey.
If you're selected, we hope you'll participate. Your feedback will guide the development of this
historic certification exam!
