Healthcare Facilities Receiving Certificates of Recognition from PNCB for the Pursuit of Excellence by Their Certified Pediatric Nurses
CPNs at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (Portland, Oregon)
In summer 2011, St. Vincent celebrated the achievement of 100% Certified Pediatric Nurses on day shift!
"We are dedicated to excellence in healthcare for children through the highest quality care," notes Marie Curley, RN-BC, Nurse Manager, Pediatric Surgery and Inpatient Departments.
"Research shows that certification increases staff's perception of empowerment, which is linked to lower levels of burn-out.
Institutions that encourage certification are very attractive to potential hires. A high percentage of certified nurses at your
facility tells consumers you're dedicated to superlative patient care.
The presence of certified nurses on staff is an important quality indicator for hospitals seeking Magnet status and is also recognized by accrediting agencies."
Many of these CPNs have been with St. Vincent since opening, including Mandy Lesher, who is consistently involved with research, policies, procedures and quality monitoring. Marie adds, "Our nurses are passionate about the well-being of children and their families.
They consistently provide excellent care to pediatric patients and their families, and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide the best care. They are mentors to their colleagues."
