The DNP and CPNP® Certification
In response to questions about how the DNP may impact your certification,
the PNCB offers its Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Certification and the Doctorate of Nursing Practice statement. The PNCB will never require you to obtain
additional degrees to keep your current CPNP® certification. However, CPNPs®
who allow their certification to lapse would need to meet any new eligibility requirements to take the exam again. In the future,
this could include the DNP.

Important Changes Regarding the Use of Physostigmine
The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board would like to inform you of new information regarding the use of physostigmine.
This important update affects your Lexi-Comp Pediatric Dosage Handbook, 14th Edition, which you received as a reference for
the PNCB's 2007 - 2008 Pediatric Pharmacology Self-Assessment Exercise.
Recently, clinical feedback has prompted concern related to the use of physostigmine as a treatment
option as outlined in the Overdose/Toxicology section in Lexi-Comp?s drug information. Although these
concerns affect a minority of monographs, Lexi-Comp has decided to temporarily suspend this content
until these concerns are more fully investigated in consultation with a panel of toxicology experts.
Because this information is presented in past and current print publications, Lexi-Comp notified the PNCB
so that we could promptly communicate this critical update to you. Both the PNCB and Lexi-Comp seek to maintain
the highest level of professional integrity with the information they provide. We ask that you please review
this notice from Lexi-Comp for more information.
This new information does not affect test questions in the 2007 ? 2008 Pediatric Pharmacology
Self-Assessment Exercise. Should you have additional questions, please contact Lexi-Comp?s Customer Support Team at 866-397-3433.

Dr. Janet S. Wyatt Named a Fellow of the AANP
Dr. Janet S. Wyatt, Chief Executive Officer of the PNCB, was recently inducted as a Fellow of the
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. The FAANP program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner
leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through nurse practitioner clinical practice,
research, education, or policy. Priority initiatives of FAANP are the development of leadership and mentorship
programs for nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. Fellows of the AANP are visionaries committed
to the global advancement of nursing through the development of imaginative and creative future nurse practitioner
leaders, and as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and health
care outside the confines of traditional thinking.
A limited number of nurse practitioners are selected for this highly coveted distinction each year. Dr. Wyatt
will continue the tradition of contributing to the mission of the AANP and promoting the role of the
nurse practitioner as a provider of quality, cost-effective health care. For more information about AANP Fellows Program,

Update on the NCSBN's Vision Paper
In February-March 2006 the National Council of State Boards of
Nursing proposed a "Vision" for the future regulation of all Nurse Practitioner practice.
In this "vision" the NCSBN proposed establishment of a generic Nurse Practitioner exam for
licensure of all NPs. In the four- to six-week period allowed for national comment regarding
this "Vision" paper, the PNCB joined many national and state organizations in opposition
to this proposal.
In August 2006 the Board of Directors of the NCSBN noted the overwhelming
opposition to this proposal and indicated that they would continue to study this issue.
In an effort to inform NCSBN leadership about the strengths and long history of success of
current specialty certification of NPs as a standard for regulation, the PNCB and many other
educational and certification organizations have continued the work of the APRN Work Group of the
American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The APRN Work Group will be meeting with NCSBN
leadership through 2006 and 2007 to hopefully establish congruent and complementary positions
regarding the education, certification and regulation of all NP practice. Please check the PNCB
web site, NAPNAP's web site and the AACN web site for further updates.
