NBCHPN® Role Delineation Study
The National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN®) is conducting a survey to identify current critical tasks performed by professionals caring for patients experiencing perinatal loss and to determine the content of a possible NBCHPN certification examination for these professionals. PNCB's Item Writer Workshop at 2012 NAPNAP Conference
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
6.5 contact hours
This PNCB workshop is targeted for both Primary and Acute Care CPNPs who are actively involved in
clinical practice more than 20 hours per week and are willing to share their clinical expertise to create
test items for the PNCB. Selected participants will complete item writing assignments prior to the workshop and
will continue in an Item Writer role over a two-year period with annual assignments. For completed work and attendance
at the workshop, the PNCB will provide all meals during the meeting and an honorarium of $250. Participants will also earn
continuing education credit for this workshop (NAPNAP Agency #A-01) and additional recertification benefits. We encourage all
practicing CPNPs to apply for this special workshop.
This session is led by Adele Foerster, MSN, CPNP and Cathy Haut, DNP, CPNP, CCRN, and is limited to 30 participants. Registration
is through the PNCB. To request specific application requirements, please contact Lesley Lightfoot at llightfoot@pncb.org at your earliest convenience, as

Cincinnati Children's Reaches 500 CPNs Milestone

Bayhealth-Kent Achieves 100% CPN® Certification
Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital pediatric nurses have fulfilled a pledge to earn certification from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
As of January, 2011, all 18 of the 18 pediatric nurses have earned the certification.
Moore credits a team effort by all the pediatric nurses to achieve their ambitious goal of 100 percent certification for the entire pediatric nursing department at Kent General Hospital.
Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital pediatric nurses have also pledged to complete pediatric nursing certification. "We're well on the path to 100 percent certification for the
pediatric nurses at Milford Memorial Hospital. Our patients deserve the best," said Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital Manager of Women's and Children's Services Karen Kelly, RNC-OB, MSN.

Children's Mercy Reaches 500 CPNs Milestone

PNCB Board Member Dr. Reuter-Rice Honored
PNCB Board of Directors Secretary Karin Reuter-Rice, PhD, RN, CPNP-AC/PC, was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) at the
ACCM Convocation/Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Awards Presentation on Monday, January 17, 2011, in San Diego, California.
As part of the SCCM, the College helps foster the Society's mission by recognizing the highest achievements in multiprofessional critical care.
Assistant Professor Reuter-Rice is faculty coordinator for the Neonatal and Pediatric Instructional Area and lead faculty in the Pediatric Acute and
Chronic Care Nurse Practitioner specialty of the Master of Science in Nursing degree program at the Duke University School of Nursing.
She holds a secondary appointment as assistant professor in the Duke University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics.
"Dr. Reuter-Rice is an accomplished professional whose career achievements surely merit this award," said Catherine L. Gilliss, DNSc, RN, FAAN,
dean and Helene Fuld Health Trust Professor of Nursing and vice chancellor for nursing affairs at Duke University. "Her leadership has advanced our work at Duke,

The PNCB is seeking nominations for the Board position, Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC) member-at-large.
This special position broadens the representative voice of acute care CPNPs on issues related to pediatric nursing certification for advanced and general practice.

The PNCB Announces Planned Leadership Transition
Following more than 13 years of outstanding leadership and service to the PNCB, Janet S. Wyatt, PhD, RN, CRNP, FAANP has announced that she will transition from the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to the position of PNCB Consultant. The successful strategies and programs of the PNCB will continue under the leadership of new CEO Margaret (Peg) Harrison, MS, RN, CPNP. "We are indeed proud to announce that Peg has been selected by the PNCB Board and has agreed to be the new CEO effective February 1, 2011," noted PNCB board president Arlene Sperhac, PhD, RN, CPNP, FAAN. "Jan has been an amazing ingredient to the success of the PNCB for over a decade, and we are very pleased that Jan will continue to serve the PNCB as she transitions to a new consultant position beginning February 1." PNCB Hosts Pediatric Nursing Invitational Forum
On November 11 and 12, the PNCB hosted the first-ever Invitational Forum for Pediatric Nursing, bringing together thought leaders from other pediatric nursing organizations and major children's hospitals to address the issues facing our profession and the health care needs of children and their families.
