PNCB

Fees and Procedures

The exam fee for the National Primary Care PNP Exam is $385, which includes a $130 nonrefundable registration fee. The PNCB requires a completed application with payment as the first step in applying to take the Exam. We will be unable to match your supporting documentation without the receipt of application and payment.

The fee for re-examination/re-application is $310, which is not refundable. Unsuccessful candidates may repeat the Primary Care PNP Exam provided they meet the PNCB's eligibility criteria at the time they apply for reexam. An eligible candidate may apply to take the Primary Care PNP Exam three times before validation of further training, education, or review is required. No waiting period is required. An eligible candidate may reexam as soon as an application & reexam fee are received and eligibility is determined. A new 90-day testing period is assigned.

A check, money order, or credit card payment should be made payable to PNCB. Payment of total fees is due at time to application.

• Exam Withdrawal

Candidates who are unable to take the exam must submit a written request for withdrawal from the exam to the PNCB. To receive a refund of the exam fee, the request must be received five business days before the termination of the assigned 90-day testing period. The registration fee is nonrefundable under any circumstances. If the candidate has scheduled an exam time and date with AMP, the candidate must also cancel with AMP with five business days' notice.

• "No Show"

Candidates will forfeit all registration and exam fees if failure to cancel or re-reschedule an exam results in a "no show" recording with AMP. No fees will be refunded if a candidate fails to test within an assigned 90-day period. If candidates have already scheduled an appointment and either withdraw or request an extension of the testing period, it is their responsibility to cancel and/or reschedule their AMP testing appointment with AMP. Failure to cancel an assigned appointment with AMP, within the appropriate 2 full business days notice period will cause forfeiture of all exam and registration fees.

• Testing Period Extension (one time only) - $150

To extend the assigned 90-day testing period, you must apply for an extension one week (five business days) before the 90-day testing period ends. No fees will be refunded if a candidate fails to test within the assigned 90-day testing period. Candidates must cancel any assigned testing time and date with AMP within the required notice of 2 full business days.

Please note: At no time will your testing period be more than 90 days. Once you apply for the extension, your 90-day testing window will begin soon after your request for an extension is approved. Many people incorrectly interpret this to mean that applying for an extension grants them 180 days to take the exam.

• Cancelling and Rescheduling Your Exam (one time only)

Candidates may cancel and reschedule their exam time and date with AMP, one time only, within their 90-day testing period. Instructions for cancellation and rescheduling are provided by AMP. However, failure to cancel an appointment within the appropriate AMP 2 full business day notice period will cause forfeiture of all exam and registration fees ("No Show" Policy).

• Exam Fee Refund

The registration fee is nonrefundable under any circumstances. The initial exam fee will not be refunded if a candidate fails to test within the assigned 90-day testing period, or if a candidate fails to cancel and reschedule an assigned appointment with AMP within the appropriate AMP 2 full business day notice period, or if a candidate fails to submit a written request to the PNCB for withdrawal, extension, or reassignment before the termination of the 90-day testing period.

All fees are subject to change without notice.

• Appeals

An appeals process is available to candidates who wish to contest an adverse decision or proposed action affecting his or her application for certification, exam results or recertification. The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors hears all candidate appeals. All proposed remedies and decisions of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors are final.

Procedure: A request for review and consideration an adverse action (e.g. exam failure) must be submitted in writing to the PNCB Director of Customer Service within 20 business days following the date of the adverse decision (post-marked) to the individual. All requests for appeal should clearly outline all reasons and rationale for appeal. Individuals seeking appeal of any decision should attempt to provide all necessary data in support of the appeal and set forth any new or additional information to be considered by the Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors will hear all appeal requests within 20 business days of receipt of the appeal request. The Executive Committee will investigate the appeal request, seeking opinions from psychometric and testing experts, attorneys and other resources as necessary. Specific requests for review of exam results will be managed among PNCB professional staff and psychometric consultants to the PNCB. Based on this investigation, the Executive Committee may decide to uphold an initial decision or may take other appropriate action with regards to the appeal request. The Executive Committee will notify all individuals in writing of the decision of the Executive Committee within 15 business days following the date of the appeal review. Notification will be sent by registered or certified mail.
