Recertification

When is it?
What's Required?

Meeting Your Recert Requirements
How It Works

Recertification enrollment happens each year from October 1 to December 31. During this open enrollment period, you will visit the PNCB website and complete a brief online application to select a Recertification option that shows how you are maintaining competency in your practice.

Your Recertification is guided by two basic principles:

Each year, you'll document 15 contact hours of accepted activity.
During each 7-year Recert tracking cycle, you'll complete the Pediatric Updates requirements for your certification type. See my Pediatric Updates requirements >>

Enroll Annually 10/1 - 12/31
Each year, you will enroll in Recertification between October 1 and December 31 prior to the expiration year on your online wallet card.

15 Contact Hours Per Year
You will document 15 contact hours of activity annually by selecting one Recert option.

Pediatric Updates Requirements
Each CPN and CPNP must complete certain Pediatric Updates (formerly Standards Assessment Exams) within a 7-year tracking period. Learn more about these CE activities and your Pediatric Updates requirements, including number required within each 7-year Recert tracking cycle.

Important Note: For 2012 Recert, Pediatric Updates can be selected during Recert enrollment and completed after Recert enrollment with a due date of 150 days from order processing date.

Current Licensure
You will also document current US, Canadian, or US territory registered nurse licensure during Recert enrollment.

Newly Certified?
Check the expiration date on your online wallet card. You will need to enroll in Recert between October 1 and December 31 prior to the year of this expiration date and annually thereafter. You decide which option to complete for your first year (and every year) but be thinking ahead about earning 15 contact hours or fulfilling other documentation options, and when you'll fulfill Pediatric Updates requirements.
