About Us

Planning to retire?

As retirement is looming for many of us, you may have been thinking about retiring your certification. If you are unsure, you may want to use the one-time "inactive" option available within your 7-year Recertification cycle provided that you are not at risk for failing to meet any Self-Assessment Exercise requirements.

If you have already used this option or feel certain that it is time to retire from your role as a Certified Pediatric Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, please let us know that you would like to voluntarily retire your certification. Retirement will still allow you to:

Please let us know with a short note about your intention to retire from practice by sending an email to recert@pncb.org or write to us at:

Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
800 South Frederick Avenue
Suite 204
Gaithersburg, MD 20877-4152

After we hear from you, we'll note this in your record. We will remove you from our Recert reminders mailing list, but will continue to keep you abreast of news from the PNCB. We will also acknowledge your contributions to pediatric nursing with a letter thanking you for all your years of service to children and families.

If your plans change and you desire to return to active CPN® or CPNP® certification, please contact us. You will need to meet current eligibility requirements and take the exam.

Are you a retiring CPNP? If you'd like to share your experience and expertise with others, we invite you to become an external item writer. This is a great way to stay involved in advanced practice pediatric nursing while contributing to exams for future generations of Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Contact Lesley Lightfoot, Director of Credentialing Programs, at llightfoot@pncb.org or 1-888-641-2767 ext. 303 for more information.

We'd love to keep you as part of the PNCB family and hope you enjoy your retirement!
