SAE Updates

This web page offers important updates and alerts for PNCB Self-Assessment Exercises (SAEs). As our SAEs are launched every year or every other year, items are not pre-tested. This means that errors should not be unexpected. Statistics for each item are always reviewed during the scoring process, and those that do not perform well will be discussed by the committee and perhaps deleted from scoring.

If you would like to join our SAE committees, please contact volunteer@pncb.org. For SAE questions or feedback, please email us at sae@pncb.org.

Misplace your answer sheet? Print the SAE answer sheet (PDF file) and return it to our office by mail, fax or email. Instructions for returning this sheet are included in the PDF.

Returned SAE answer sheet? If your answer sheet was returned to you due to insufficient postage, you do not need to submit a late fee. Simply mail the sheet to us with the original envelope in a new envelope. This way staff will know that you postmarked your answer sheet on time.

• Important Changes Regarding the Use of Physostigmine

This important update affects your Lexi-Comp Pediatric Dosage Handbook, 14th Edition, which you received as a reference for the PNCB's 2007 - 2008 Pediatric Pharmacology Self-Assessment Exercise.

Recently, clinical feedback has prompted concern related to the use of physostigmine as a treatment option as outlined in the Overdose/Toxicology section in Lexi-Comp?s drug information. Although these concerns affect a minority of monographs, Lexi-Comp has decided to temporarily suspend this content until these concerns are more fully investigated in consultation with a panel of toxicology experts.

Because this information is presented in past and current print publications, Lexi-Comp notified the PNCB so that we could promptly communicate this critical update to you. Both the PNCB and Lexi-Comp seek to maintain the highest level of professional integrity with the information they provide. We ask that you please review this notice from Lexi-Comp for more information.

This new information does not affect test questions in the 2007 ? 2008 Pediatric Pharmacology Self-Assessment Exercise. Should you have additional questions, please contact Lexi-Comp's Customer Support Team at 866-397-3433.

• Update on Item 51

It appears that an option for this item may be missing from the response list or that option A (permethrin) was mistakenly printed for pyrethrin. The error probably occurred in the SAE editing process and has been noted for this SAE's committee. Each year we review the "performance" of items, including those that may be out of date or involve practice changes since the SAE was printed as well as items that had typographical issues or incorrect or missing information. If statistical analysis indicates that an item is problematic, the SAE committee determines how to proceed with scoring. You will get a score report with all of this information in late June/early July, after our statistician and committee review the exercise.
